Pygmalion and Galatea, by Gerome Pygmalion, talented sculptor of Greece, created a statue he named Galatea ("sleeping love") which he fell in love with. He prayed to Aphrodite, goddess of Love, to have a wife such as Galatea. Aphrodite granted his wish by bringing the statue to life. [Enlarge]
